are both client browsers configured equivalently wrt to their trust roots?
My hunch is that your IE has intermediate 1 in its trust roots, and your firefox does not, and neither has Intermediate 2. It appears that both clients are relying on the server to send them the entire cert path, since they cannot apparently fetch certificates to build a chain.
