Sorry about the delay in replying - I was not at work yesterday.
To answer your questions:
a) Yes. Using Tomcat I get 20x the throughput of glassfish (before failures) with the clusterjsp JMeter test.
b) Yes indeed!
The JMeter test is a test against the clusterjsp.ear sample application. There are no frames so there is no chance of the request intermingling you have mentioned. It is purely a single threaded, single paged, query to the app servers. The queries are done sequentially and toggle between the two instances in the cluster. I am quite certain there is no overlap of requests.
