I did knew about the modification of /etc/hosts file. However, it still does not work before I make this post.
Credit to one of my colleague today, he managed to find out there is some problem in the
{glassfish_home}/imq/etc/imqenv.conf file

There are mulitple IMQ_DEFAULT_JAVAHOME and IMQ_DEFAULT_VARHOME. Once i commented out those lines with the "set" parameter, the cluster instances can be started.

Double check with my Mac version of this file, there is no mulitple lines of the above 2 variables.
