Hello,
I am having the exact same issue being reported here.
I am on glassfishv2u2; i use netbeans6.1 and for the longest time was not impacted by this issue that I could tell.
DirectConsumer:Caught Exception delivering messagecom.sun.messaging.jmq.io.Packet cannot be cast to com.sun.messaging.jms.ra.DirectPacket
Oflate I started noticing that only the first message foes thru! So I started googling on this erro and came across this thread. So I changed JMS settings from EMBED to LOCAL ... now, where is what I see!
Still no message and this is what I see in the error log.

So what should I do now? I have tried both LOCAL and EMBED ..and no help! Also I tried REMOTE and I am getting a connection error to port 7676 - I assume that is my firewall doing it and didnt pursue. Please help/advice.
