Yea, it's easy to argue that an idle GF consumes more memory than an idle Apache/PHP system. But if you're biting the bullet and going Java anyway, then you're already going to have that kind of overhead.

That said, GF is more memory hungry out of the box than, say, something like Tomcat.

GF 3 will fix that, be more tunable, but we're not there yet.

If you can take the memory hit, GF is pretty nice though.
