I did not see any suggestions as to how this could be done for external libraries for which you don't have the source code or might even not know the name of the MBeans registered.
But yes do this manually as I wrote is possble but I feel that the application sandbox is less than perfekt.
The suggested design that I suggested is quite elegant and easy to implement in my mind. Though it requires an AOP framework as was one of my other requests as well.
