Worked for me:

asadmin> create-service help
Usage: asadmin create-service --passwordfile password-file [--
terse=false] [--echo=false] [--name service-name] [--type das|node-
agent] [--serviceproperties (name=value)+] domain-dir|node-agent-dir
CLI014 passwordfile is a required option.

can you type "version" at the "asadmin> " prompt?
