I was just deploying my web app into the Glassfish that comes with NetBeans, but was actually deploying via the admin GUI, so this has nothing to do with NB other than that this was the Glassfish as bundled with NB.
The way this hits me is that I have a ServletContextListener that registers MBeans for my web app and uses 'null' as the ObjectName until the MBean's own registration listener computes and returns an appropriate ObjectName.
