I would figure there would be some mechanism to support this such as a notification if the version changes?
I'm not sure if there is a better alternative but what I would like to have is some notification if an entity has changed. That way I can mark it as dirty in the database and when my EJB timer kicks off it can perform appropriate notifications based on this.
