Meanwhile I tested my class mappings using DERBY in place of INFORMIX.
With DERBY everything runs fine - but unfortunately that does not help
because the application runs on INFORMIX.

So this seems to be a bug in the Toplink implementation for INFORMIX
outer joins ...
