Any clues to this? I check the JSR173 spec and this also defines the newInstance method on the XMLOutputFactory to return an XMLInputFactory, but I find it hard to believe that that was actually the intention. Also since the stax-api-1.0.1.jar does contain a method signature that makes more sense.
