The line numbers on the latest stack trace don't correspond to the version of the classes that are in build 38. We also added some logic to avoid this kind of NPE.
Is there a chance that this launch was still using the appserv-jwsacc.jar file from the earlier build? Did you reinstall GF into a brand new location?
And although it seems as if it would save work, resist the urge to copy the domain directory from the old installation on top of the new one in hopes of avoiding the need to redeploy apps, redo configuration, etc. It can lead to trouble (and has for some users in the past).
