No.
I did not download the updater a second time, I used the same one.
After I returned from lunch, I restarted the development workstation and
I tried the updater again - it returned the same error.

That's strange. I just tried against SJSAS 9.0UR1 and the update worked
fine.
You didn't download the updater again when you tested against GlassFish
did you?
