Ya, sorry, no. A server that's so badly broken that it can't even
return the correct status code for an authentication failure isn't
worth supporting.
File this as a P1 bug against qmail instead. There must be tons of
mail clients that fail to work with such a server.
If you're really desperate, you might be able to work around this server
bug by using the SMTPTransport.getLastServerResponse() method and checking
for the failure string.
