Group tab of the Group & Sort tab

Overview

Use the Group tab of the Group & Sort tab to group items in your layout. Grouping bands always display in alphanumeric order, even if no sorting is specified.

Screen Elements

Display area

Show group totals option

Select to display totals in grouping bands. Clear the checkbox to hide all totals in the grouping bands.

Show grand totals option

Select to show a grand total row at the top of the layout.

Show summaries only option

Select to show summarized grouping bands only; details under the grouping bands will be hidden. Clear to show grouping bands with details displayed below each group.

Grid area

The order of grouping entries determines how sub-groups will be displayed. For example, if the first grouping entry is WBS path and the second is Activity Status, data will first be grouped into WBS bands, then within those groups, will sub-group by Activity Status.

Click the X to remove a field choice and reset settings in the row.

Group By list

Lists grouping field choices. Click to select or change a data item.

Indent option

This option is selected by default if the item selected in the Group By column is hierarchical. Each level of the hierarchy is indented unless a level is specified in the To Level field.

To Level field

Indicates the number of levels to indent when grouping by hierarchical code. The maximum number of levels is 20.

Group Interval field

Indicates the group interval when grouping by fields. For example, group by Remaining Duration. Type 5d in the Group Interval field. The data items are grouped according to the length of their remaining durations - 0.0d - 5.0d, 5.0d - 10.0d, and so on. For date fields, choose from Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Year. You can also group by numeric fields, such as integers, costs, and percents.

If a unit is not specified, the default unit, as specified in the User Preferences dialog box in P6 Professional or on the My Preferences page in P6 , will be used.

Page Break option

Select to indicate that this group should cause a page break when printing the layout.

Hide if empty option

Select to hide group title bands that do not contain data items within the group. Select if you are grouping by a hierarchical field, such as EPS or WBS, and the project has empty EPS or WBS bands. For example, select this option if you are grouping by WBS in the Activities window and the project has empty WBS bands.

Sort grouping bands alphabetically option

Select to show the grouping bands alphabetically rather than in their order in their respective hierarchy. This option is disabled for any grouping that is not hierarchical.

Show Title option

Select to display the field name of the selected group entry. For example, when a WBS path is selected for a grouping band and Field Title is selected, the bands will display "WBS Path: <the full name of the WBS Path>.

Group Band Title list

Select to display the ID/Code, Name/Description, or Both on the grouping band.

Fill list

Lists each grouping's background display colors. Click to change a color.

Font Family list

Lists each grouping's display font. Click to change a font.

Font Style list

List each grouping's font style. Click to change a font style.

Size list

Lists each grouping's font size. Click to change a font size.

Font Color list

Lists each grouping's font color. Click to change a font color.

Preview field

Displays a preview of each grouping's settings as they will display in the layout.

Getting Here

From the Create or Open Timescaled Logic Diagram dialog box or the Create or Open Gantt Diagram dialog box, click Options. Click the Group & Sort tab, then click the Group tab.
