| Project management is a basic module for creating and managing projects
and project-dependent data. It provides fine structuring and planning of
individual projects or subprojects as well as project-relevant data as documents,
items, etc. Projects enable the user to structure data in a process-oriented
manner into individual subtasks. The projects master record represents the
starting point for all project structures. Project management is linked
to document management and item management by relation definitions, so that
different items and documents can by linked in a project. |
| For example, the project Computer Manufacturing has those components
(items) assigned that are used to manufacture the computer (case, drives,
hard disks, etc.). Generally, the drawings of the individual items contained
in the project are not assigned directly to the project; they are assigned
indirectly using the item management. However, it is possible to create
relationships between documents and projects. This is useful in case of
documents used in the project which do not belong to an item. In the PC
example this could be the operating manual. |
 |
| Projects as well as items or documents can be assigned to folders. Possible
relations between projects, items, documents, and folders are shown in the
figure below. |
 |
| The managed projects are subject to a specified review/release procedure
for documentation of status states, releases, and changes. The individual
projects can be based on different review releases. |
