Managers and End-Users

When working with DataView you differentiate between developing users and end-users by assigning the manager privilege in the Man.-Priv. field of the user master.

If you assign manager privileges to a user, he becomes a developing user. He gets the DataView toolbars and, thus, is allowed to open all DataView system masks and create and modify the meta data of the application there. For a distributed development you can assign manager privileges to several users and create developer groups. For all manager users it is important to be members of the default developer group DATAVIEW with the maximum access privilege d = delete. Without this membership manager users are still allowed to open the DataView system masks, but they will not be able to modify any meta data.

Users without manager privileges are end-users. They do not get any DataView toolbars and have only access to existing application objects (masks). There they can create and manage user data, but only if the application objects have been released for that. Detailed information on that can be found in -> End-User Access to Application Objects.
