Getting Started

General

The Agile e6 program window contains a work area for displaying records in screens, a Browser pane for displaying object structures, and a message window in which system messages and error messages can be displayed.

The program window of Agile e6 is laid out as follows:

Illustrations of the Various Client Windows

Title Bar
The title bar contains the name of the program and information about the server, application, and user.

Menu Bar

  • Java Client:
The standard menus are Start, View, Tools, Manager, System (only visible when logged in as Manager user), and Help.
  • Web Client
The standard menus are Start, View, Tools, and Help.

Toolbars
Toolbars contain buttons for commonly used actions, for example the opening of main object windows (items, documents, etc.). Toolbars are divided up into functional areas and modules, and can be displayed or hidden.

Browser
The browser displays data in a tree structure. You can edit objects and save them. They are stored in the Global tab or are saved into Favorites (My Workplace tab).

Work Area
Area to work with masks.

Trashbasket:

  • In the Java Client, the trashbasket is placed at the bottom right corner of the client window.
  • The Web Client does not have a trashbasket.

Message Window
The message window displays important information about the current session, including error messages. With the AutoHide feature (callable via the context menu), the message window can be hidden when not in use. To see the content of the window, the mouse pointer has to be positioned on the window title and the window is opened in its full size.

When AutoHide is activated, only the window title is shown.

Modify Layout of Window

The following information applies only to the Java client.

Switch to Another Look&Feel

The Java Client comes with a standard look&feel. If needed, the look&feel can be adapted to your own needs. The look&feel can be changed in the Preferences mask (Tools > Options > User Interface and Connections), e.g. General > Appearance. This setting is stored between sessions on this machine and for each Windows user.

Single Document Interface (SDI)

Single Document Interface (standard mode) means that all Agile EDM masks, which can be opened, are not displayed as freely movable masks, but are displayed in one window. All opened masks are added as tabs behind each other in one window. To navigate between the different SDI-based masks, the navigation tabs in the heading area of the respective window can be used. The heading area also provides buttons to close masks and to navigate between the masks.

The Multi Document Interface (MDI) mode is still supported. MDI means that each mask is opened in an extra window. Switching between SDI and MDI mode is done in the Preferences mask, by turning on or off the SDI flag.

After restarting the Java Client, the newly set mode is activated.

Because of the SDI mode, the trash icon is now displayed at the bottom status bar of the Java client. Double-clicking on the icon opens the normal trash mask.

Docking Windows

The Java Client allows to reposition and rearrange UI components (e.g. windows and menus). The result of all docking activities are stored in a local file to get the same layout again after restarting the client. The following docking features are available:

  • Repositioning the window component inside the client frame, e.g. the Internal Browser can be moved from left to right of the main frame. This can be done by clicking on the component header and dragging it to its new position.
  • It is also possible to drag some of the components (e.g. Internal Browser, Trace and Message window) outside the client window (e.g. to display the browser on a second monitor).
To undo the docking operation, select View > View > Undo Layout, or reset the layout with the Reset Layout function.
After each working session, the UI personalization settings are stored in external files in the home directory of the respective operating system. In this directory several layout files are stored, one for each logon user. To remove all personalization settings, the layout files in this directory need to be deleted.
When UI components are not displayed correctly, the UI-reset function can be called by pressing Shift-CTRL-F9.
