Product Usage

Introduction

With the Product Usage module the release of a product related to a specific application is managed. A product platform is created to specify the manufacturer and to describe the characteristics of the platform. An application is used to describe specific conditions for the product usage.

The following figure depicts the relation between a product and an application.

Since a product may be used in different applications by your customer, the specific conditions for the usage need to be defined. For example, a transmission that is uniformly used for a certain car series is described by different specifications according to the requirements of e.g. a specific market like Asia. Therefore, a product that is assigned to several applications has to be checked against different requirements before it is released for an application.

Agile e6 allows to create and define applications in order to assign and release the product and specification documents. An application can be classified by attributes such as e.g. minimum lifetime, maximum load etc. The classification defines and provides a list of characteristics for a specific application.

For example, in the Automotive industry a product is usually released in the context of an application, which specifies a set of conditions/requirements defined as part of the contract with the customer. The application is defined by a certain (car) platform specifying the manufacturer of the car and containing the product name. Depending on the individual application further characteristics may be added to fully specify the application e.g. characteristics of the engine like torque, revolution per minute, etc.
