About the JRockit Discovery Protocol

The JRockit Discovery Protocol (JDP) allows you to have the JVM Browser look for additional JRockit JVM instances in your network. To view the discovered JVMs, click the Discovered folder then the JDP folder. The discovered JVMs will appear in the JDP folder (see Figure: JVMs Discovered Through JDP).

JVMs Discovered Through JDP

Description of this figure follows
Description of "JVMs Discovered Through JDP"

JRockit JVMs are discovered automatically through JDP if the autodiscovery parameter is set to true (-Xmanagement:autodiscovery=true). To get more useful information, you might need to add more parameters to the option, for example, port=<number>. See "JRockit Mission Control Communications" for details on the parameters to the -Xmanagement option.

You can change the preferences for JDP; that is, set which multicast group to join and which port to listen to.

To set JDP preferences:

  1. Click Window then Preferences.

  2. Click JRockit Mission Control then Browser Preferences and then JDP Preferences.

The JDP Preferences dialog box opens.

  3. Enter an address for the multicast group to join.

  4. Enter a port to listen to.

  5. Click Apply if you want to change something else in the Preferences window.

    Note:

You need to restart JRockit Mission Control for the changes to take effect

  6. Click OK when you are done.
