How to Create a Profiling Recording

A profiling recording provides runtime information over a preset period of time, going forward from when the recording commenced.

To create a basic profiling recording:

  1. In the Mission Control Browser, right-click the JRockit instance you want to record.

    A context menu opens.

  2. Select Start Flight Recording.

The Flight Recording Wizard appears. The Defaults template should already be selected. This is the template recommended to use for profiling recording. (If this template is not selected, open the drop-down menu and select it.)

    Note:

If you want to change any object type properties in the Defaults template, use the procedures outlined in "Modifying an Existing Template"

  3. Set the basic recording parameters, as follows:

    • In Filename, type the filename, including required filepath, by which you want to save the file. Use Browse to locate the correct filepath and, if you are overwriting an existing recording, the filename.

    • In Name, type a descriptive name for the recording. This will be the name that appears in the Control View.

    • In Recording Time, enter the required duration, in seconds, of the recording.

  4. Click OK.

You will be prompted to confirm the recording parameters.

  5. Confirm the parameters and start the recording by clicking OK.
