Cross Site Scripting (XSS) Vulnerability in Sun Management Center (SunMC) Performance Reporting Module

1. Impact

A cross-site scripting (XSS) security vulnerability in the Sun Management Center (SunMC) Performance Reporting Module may allow an unprivileged remote user to execute arbitrary JavaScript code in a user's web browser or to steal session cookies which may be used to gain access to the Sun Management Center Web Console.

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:

SPARC Platform
  • SunMC 3.6.1 (for Solaris 8) without patch 125191-04
  • SunMC 3.6.1 (for Solaris 9) without patch 125192-04
  • SunMC 3.6.1 (for Solaris 10) without patch 125194-04
  • SunMC 4.0   (for Solaris 10) without patch 138553-03
x86 Platform
  • SunMC 4.0 (for Solaris 10) without patch 138554-03
Notes:
1. This issue affects systems installed with Sun Management Center (SunMC) server software.
2. SunMC 3.6.1 server is not supported on the Solaris x86 platform.

To determine if SunMC server is installed on a Solaris system or what version is present, the following command can be run:
$ pkginfo -l SUNWessrv | grep VERSION
VERSION: 3.6.1,REV=2.7.2003.08.28
If the following error message is returned, the "SUNWessrv" package and SunMC server are not installed on the system:
ERROR: information for "SUNWessrv" was not found.
To determine if the PRM module is installed on a Solaris system, the following command can be run:
$ pkginfo SUNWesprm
system SUNWesprm Sun Management Center PRM addon
If instead, the following error message is returned:
ERROR: information for "SUNWesprm" was not found
Then the PRM module is not installed on the system.
