Time Out Settings

Field Description
Time Out (in seconds)

Enter the maximum number of seconds the Web Clipping provider should try to connect to Web sites whose content has been clipped and added to a Web Clipping portlet.

The value you enter will be used as a default setting on the Web Clipping edit page, specifically as the upper limit of suggested valid timeouts on the edit page for the Web Clipping portlet.

Caching Parameters

Field Description
Cache Expires

Enter the number of minutes cached content is valid. Any user requests for portlet content that occur within the time period you specify will be satisfied with content from the cache.

Once the cache period is exceeded, requests for portlet content will be satisfied by retrieving content from the portlet's Web Clipping data source. The cache will also be refreshed with this content.

Select this option if the Web Clipping portlet displays content that doesn't need to updated continuously. For example, if you decide that news content in the portlet only needs to be updated every two hours, enter 120.

Scheme

Choose validation to use validation-based caching through Oracle9iAS Portal to cache Web Clipping portlet content. With validation-based caching, the mid-tier Parallel Page Engine (PPE) contacts the Portal Provider to determine if the cached item is still valid.

Choose invalidation to use Oracle9iAS Web Cache to cache portlet content. This option is valid only if you have Web Cache installed. With invalidation-based caching, an item remains in the cache until the cache receives notification that the item needs to be refreshed.
