Registering a provider with a Portal instance
To make a provider and its portlets available to Oracle9iAS Portal, you or the Portal Administrator must register the provider with an Oracle9iAS portal instance. After registering the provider, the provider and its portlets become available in the Portlet Repository and the Add Portlets page. They are also listed in the Oracle9iAS Portal Navigator.
To register a provider, you must have at least Publish privileges on All Providers.
To register a provider:
Locate the Providers portlet in the Oracle9iAS Portal instance where you want to register the provider By default, the Providers portlet is located on the Build tab of the Oracle9iAS Builder page.

Click Register a Portlet Provider.
In the Name field, enter the name of your provider. Note: The name you enter here must be the same Name of the provider as it appears in the mid-tier Navigator.
In Display Name, enter a more descriptive name for the provider. This display name will identify the provider in the Portlet Repository.
In Timeout, enter the number of seconds that Oracle9iAS Portal should attempt to connect to the provider before timing out.
In the Timeout Message field, enter the message to display within the body of the portlet if the Oracle9iAS Portal cannot establish contact with the provider within the number of seconds specified in the Timeout field.
In Implementation Style, choose Web.
Click Next.
In the URL field, enter your provider's URL. Note: You can find the URL by editing the provider in the mid-tier Navigator.
Select Web provider in same cookie domain as the portal, if the cookies created by the provider are in the same domain as the portal.
At this point you can click Finish to register the provider. If you want to provide more information in the optional fields on this wizard page and the next, click the small help icon to display descriptions of each field.
