Adding a provider to a group

Provider groups enable you to organize providers that share similar functions or generate the same types of content. You can add a provider that was created in the current mid-tier or a remote one using the Add Provider wizard.

Providers in the current mid-tier are listed in the mid-tier navigator. If you add one of these, all of the provider's properties will be automatically populated for you in the Add Provider wizard. You can accept the defaults or edit them.

To add a provider from a remote mid-tier, you must enter all of the provider's properties into the wizard yourself.

After you add the provider to the group, a Portal Administrator can register the provider or the group with an Oracle9iAS Portal instance. A Page Designer can then add the portlets owned by the provider to pages built using the Portal instance.

If you are adding a provider from a remote mid-tier, you must enter a Display Name as well as values for the remaining fields in the wizard.
