Creating Calculated Measures

Calculated measures execute functions and operations on the base measures stored in a cube. The calculated data is not stored; the data is generated in response to individual queries. Calculated measures are similar to relational views.

To see the names of measures qualified by the cube name, change the configuration setting.

To create a calculated measure:

  1. Expand the folder for the cube that contains the base measures that will be used in the calculation.

  2. Right-click Calculated Measures, then choose Create Calculated Measure from the pop-up menu.

The Calculated Measure property pages are displayed.

  3. Enter the name and description.

  4. Select a calculation type.

  5. Modify the template that describes the calculation. Click on the linked text to see a menu of choices.

  6. To perform the calculation on only a portion of a measure:

    1. Click the ellipses (...) next to a measure for the calculation.

The Qualify Measure dialog box is displayed.

    2. Select the dimension members to use in the calculation.

Note: This choice is not available for all calculations.

  7. Click Create.

When you are done, the name of the new calculated measure appears as an item in the Calculated Measures folder.
