Oracle® Enterprise Manager Grid Control Management Agent Instruction for Solaris x86 10g Release 5 (10.2.0.5) May 2009 This document list outs the instructions for installing the Management agents of latest version. NOTE: The same agent software downloaded can be used for both interactive installations using Oracle Universal Installer or for mass deployment of latest version of management agents using the features described below ----------------------------------------- 1. Download the Management Agent software ----------------------------------------- The Management agent software can be downloaded in two ways: 1.1 Automatic download from Grid Control using "Download Agent software" feature --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Management Agent software is available on My Oracle Support Web site and can be downloaded using the "Download Agent Software" feature in the Grid Control console itself. Refer to the "Downloading Management Agent Software Using Grid Control" in the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Basic Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page. Click View Library and on the page that comes up, click the Documentation tab, and then click the name of the document you want to access. 1.2 Manual download from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) ------------------------------------------------------------- Download the Solaris_x86_GridControl_agent_download_10_2_0_5_0.zip file from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN):- http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/agentsoft.html After downloading the software, verify that the size of the downloaded software matches with the size (bytes) displayed along with the download link. Follow the instructions outlined in "Verifying the Downloaded Software" of the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Basic Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page. Click View Library and on the page that comes up, click the Documentation tab, and then click the name of the document you want to access. ----------------------------------------------------- 2. Methods for Mass deployment of Management agent ----------------------------------------------------- One Time Setup --------------- - If you are using ""Download Agent software" then no manual setup is required. Skip to the next section on methods for mass deployment - If you have manually downloaded the agent software then perform the following steps: a. Copy the Agent downloaded file to the Oracle home directory of the OMS /sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.5.0 Note: If /sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.5.0 directory doesn't exist then create it manually. b. Go to the Oracle home directory of the Oracle Management Service(OMS) /sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.5.0 c. Go to the Oracle home directory of the OMS and run the following command to unzip the software /bin/unzip Solaris_x86_GridControl_agent_download_10_2_0_5_0.zip Methods for Mass Deployment of Management Agents ------------------------------------------------- Once the agent software is staged in the staging location under the OMS oracle home mentioned above then either of the following methods can be used for mass agent deployment: 2.1 Agent Deploy Application ----------------------------- Agent Deploy application allows you to automatically "push" the management agents on multiple hosts in a single change window from the Grid Control console itself. Details on using this method can be found in Agent Deployment Best Practice paper: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/pdf/10gr2_agent_deploy_bp.pdf Additionally, you can refer to “Using the Agent Deploy Application “ described in the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation and Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page. Click View Library and on the page that comes up, click the Documentation tab, and then click the name of the document you want to access. 2.2 Agent Clone ---------------- Agent Clone application automates the cloning of management agents based on existing pre-patched reference installations. It allows deployment of management agents on multiple hosts in a single change window from the Grid Control console itself. Refer to “Cloning Management Agent “ described in the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation and Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page. Click View Library and on the page that comes up, click the Documentation tab, and then click the name of the document you want to access. 2.3 agentDownload script ------------------------- An alternate option to pushing the agents to multiple hosts is to "pull" the management agent software and configure it based on demand. For using this method make sure that if agent_download.rsp doesn't exists at /sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.5.0 directory then run this command: mv agent_download.rsp.bak agent_download.rsp Then follow the instructions listed out in “Installing the Agent Using the agentDownload Script “of the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation and Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page. Click View Library and on the page that comes up, click the Documentation tab, and then click the name of the document you want to access. Additionally, refer to Agent Deployment Best Practices paper available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/pdf/10gr2_agent_deploy_bp.pdf ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Interactively installing standalone Management Agent using Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download the required Management Agent software from the section 1 describe above. The agent download software can also be used to perform an interactive agent install. Steps are as follows: 1. Extract Solaris_x86_GridControl_agent_download_10_2_0_5_0.zip file to 2. Go to /solaris_x86/agent 3. Execute /solaris_x86/agent/runInstaller For a detailed discussion on using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to install the Management Agent please refer to "Installing a Management Agent" described in the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation and Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page. Click View Library and on the page that comes up, click the Documentation tab, and then click the name of the document you want to access. ------------------------------------------- 4. Silent installation of Management agent ------------------------------------------- For Management Agent silent installation, copy the /response/additional_agent.rsp file to a location on the local machine and modify the value Unspecified entries accordingly in the response file. Invoke the runInstaller by executing: /solaris_x86/ -silent -responseFile /additional_agent.rsp For detailed information on using silent installation method to install the Management agent please refer to “Enterprise Manager Silent Installations” described in the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation and Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page. Click View Library and on the page that comes up, click the Documentation tab, and then click the name of the document you want to access. ---------------------------------- 5. NFS Mounted Agent Installation ---------------------------------- Enterprise Manager 10g R2 introduces the ability to install a single Agent on a shared NFS filesystem, and then have multiple hosts share that same ORACLE_HOME. Details on installing a NFS mounted agent can be found in section 5.0 of the Agent Deployment Best Practices paper available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/pdf/10gr2_agent_deploy_bp.pdf Additionally, refer to "NFS Agent Installation" of the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation and Configuration Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oem.html This URL takes you to the Enterprise Manager documentation library page.
