Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) is a Java application designed for installing Oracle software.
OUI provides the following capabilities for addressing software management and distribution:
Automatic dependency resolution and complex logic handling
Component and suite installations
Deinstallation of software components
Note: Although OUI can list all products previously installed with another Installer (such as orainst), it cannot deinstall them.
Support for multiple Oracle homes
National Language Support (NLS)/globalization support
Support for distributed installations
Unattended "silent" installations using response files
For information on using response files for silent installations, refer to the Oracle Universal Installer Concepts Guide and the installation and configuration guide of your product. A response file contains answers to dialogs that you would otherwise provide in an interactive installation session.
The OUI online help contains topics that describe the installer itself, as well as custom online help topics specific to the product you are currently installing.
For example, the installation types available when installing one product may not be the same as the installation types for another. As a result, the help topic for the Installation Types page is usually customized by the installation developer.
The topics in the online help are organized by phases of the installation. These phases correspond to the installation phases defined by the installation developer when he or she developed the installation procedure.
