Specify the directory where the Oracle Universal Installer should place inventory files and directories.
Note: If the directory you specify does not exist, the Installer creates it.
Use the following guidelines when choosing the directory:
Oracle recommends that you specify the following directory, where oracle_base
is the full path of Oracle base directory that you created before starting
the installation:
oracle_base/oraInventory
The Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA) standard recommends that you use
the format /mount_point/app/username when
creating the Oracle base direcory, where mount_point
is a mount point directory and username is the user
name of the user that installs the software. For example:
/u01/app/oracle
If you set the ORACLE_BASE environment variable before starting the installation,
the Installer suggests the following default path:
$ORACLE_BASE/../oraInventory
Oracle recommends that you accept this default path.
$HOME/oraInventory
In this example, $HOME is the login home directory of the
user that started the Installer. Unless you are installing the software
in a subdirectory of the home directory, Oracle recommends that you change
this value to specify the previously recommended value.
The Installer uses the Oracle Inventory directory to store inventory information in files and subdirectories. For more information about the Inventory directory, see About the Installer Inventory.
The inventory configuration files require approximately 4 MB of disk space. Product-specific inventory files vary in size, depending on the product that you are installing.
Specify or select the name of the UNIX group that will own the Oracle Inventory directory (the Oracle Inventory group), then click Next. The default group is the primary group of the UNIX user that started the Installer.
Any UNIX user that runs Oracle Universal Installer must have the group you
specify as their primary group. Only UNIX users that are members of this group
can update, install, or remove Oracle software. Oracle documention uses the
group name oinstall to identify this group.
