The web services that you develop using JDeveloper use Remote Procedure Calls (RPC). When you connect to and use an RPC web service, you specify that you want to invoke a certain procedure and provide the parameters that the procedure requires.
JDeveloper also supports the creation of stubs or proxies for document-style web services. When you connect to and use a document-style operation on a web service, you hand over an XML document that describes what you want to service to do.
When you use JDeveloper's Web Service Stub/Skeleton wizard to create a stub to a web service, it detects the type of web service that it connects to and automatically generates the correct stub.
For more information about generating proxies to web services, see Using Web Services in Applications.
