Getting Started with Modeling Web Services

Creating a model of web services allows you to quickly create web services directly on the diagram. You can model web services on any type of diagram, except an activity diagram, and you can subsequently add other elements like UML classes, Java classes, business components, Enterprise JavaBeans, UML use cases and database definitions on the same diagram. For more information on creating a web service diagram, see Creating a Web Service Diagram.

UML notation is used to represent the elements on your diagram. For more information, see How to Read a Web Service Diagram.

Java, JMS and PL/SQL Web Services

Web services are created on a diagram by clicking Java web service  (Java Web Service), JMS web service (JMS Web Service), or PL/SQL web service (PL/SQL Web Service) on the Web Service Component Palette for the diagram, and then clicking on the diagram where you want to create the service. For more information, see Creating Nodes on a Diagram.

To add existing web services to a diagram, drag the web service container from the navigator.

Note: If you change, add to or delete from the definition of anything that's displayed on a diagram, those changes will be reflected on the modeled representations of those web services. Conversely, any changes to the modeled web services are also made to the underlying web services.

You can annotate a web service diagram using notes, dependency relationships and URL links. For more information, see Annotating a Diagram.
