Congratulations! You
have successfully completed Lab 6808!
Some notes:
The server will be left intact and running until August 2009. This will give you several months to complete any labs we failed to get through in the session (all my labs are designed to have too much material representing a best case scenario where the entire room moves through them very quickly).
If you wish, you can request a LiveCycle ES DVD which has all the libraries in it we used for the remote calls. This is available via the Adobe Eventerprise Developer Program or go to:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/trial/
Step 1. Watch the following video and read through the following LCES documentation. This won’t take too long.
· LCES - Introduction Video for developers <http://gregsramblings.com/2008/03/31/adobe-livecycle-es-an-intro-video-for-developers/>
· LiveCycle ES 2 page summary document <http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/pdfs/lces_summary_card_ue.pdf>
· LCES Technical White Paper <http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/pdfs/lc_technical_whitepaper.pdf>
· LCES Overview <http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/8.2/overview.pdf> – introduces key features of LCE and how they interact with each other
· LCES Services <http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/8.2/services.pdf> – introduces each of the services in LC & how they interact with each other
· Installing and Deploying LiveCycle ES Using Turnkey <http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/8.2/installturnkey.pdf> – Must read before you install LCES
Step 2. As outlined in page 11 of the Installing and Deploying LiveCycle ES using Turnkey you must have the appropriate JDK installed on the desktop that will be running LCES. You must use Sun™ Java™ Software Development Kit 5.0 (JDK) 1.5.0_11 or a later update of JDK 1.5.0. (Information on how to install the JDK on JBoss and set the JAVA_HOME environment variables can be found on page 11 of the Installing and Deploying LiveCycle ES Using Turnkey <http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/8.2/installturnkey.pdf> document)
Step 3. You are now ready to install LiveCycle ES.
- During the installation process It is recommended that you select the Turnkey option. This will install the application server (JBoss), database (MySQL), and samples with just a few mouse clicks.
a. As part of the turnkey installation you will be asked if LiveCycle PDF Generator ES should be configured for native file conversions. This feature can convert Microsoft Word, Excel, and many other file formats to PDF files. If you would like to configure LiveCycle PDF Generator ES for this purpose, a licensed copy for Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional Extended should be installed on the server.
b. If you do not already own a valid copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional Extended, please follow these instructions to use a free trial version of the software for 30 days.
i. Before starting the installation of LiveCycle ES Update 1, download the trial version of Acrobat 9 Professional Extended <http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/tryout.html> . Install this trial version of Acrobat before running the LiveCycle installer.
ii. During the LiveCycle ES Update 1 installation process, answer "yes" when asked if native file conversions are required. You will see a message that shows that the correct version of Acrobat was detected.
iii. After the installation and configuration steps are complete your trial version of Acrobat will be running. You will have 30 days to test the software before a licensed version is purchased.
c. Note: The trial version requires a manual dialog box acknowledgement each time it is restarted. To acknowledge the trial software navigate to the main console for the server and click "OK" at the trial version prompt.
2. Once LiveCycle ES is installed you will want to retrieve the LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES certificate <http://www.adobe.com/go/reader_ext_cert> . The LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES certificate is referenced by our samples and is needed for Reader Extensions functionality. The certificate is updated each month.
3. Next you will need to install LiveCycle Workbench ES <http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/8.2/wb_help/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm> . LiveCycle Workbench ES is an integrated development environment (IDE) that you will use to model, create, or automate processes and forms. You will also use it to manage the resources and services used by the processes and forms in LiveCycle ES. To fully understand Workbench ES and the implications of modeling, creating, or automating processes and forms in a broader context, see the LiveCycle ES Overview <http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/8.2/wb_help/www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_overview_82> guide. You will find LC Workbench install file located in the LCES folder on the DVD. You will use the same serial number as the LCESU1 trail software to install LC Workbench ES.
- You are now ready to build your first LiveCycle application. Step through the attached tutorial ‘Creating Your First LiveCycle Application’ and learn the basics of building your first LiveCycle Application. I have also attached the samples used in this tutorial ‘creatfirsptapp.zip’.
- Visit the LiveCycle ES documentation page <http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/livecycle/es/> and visit the LiveCycle Developer Center <http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle> to for more information on LiveCycle ES.
