Installation Instructions

Download the Rules Palette from the Rules Palette Web Application Utility. The build manager will send the server name and port of the Web Application Utility, which should be plugged into a URL. The build manager should also send several user IDs and passwords, which are used to create an environment connection and log-in to the application once it has been downloaded.

When the Rules Palette is opened for the first time, an environment connection needs to be created. The servername and port are needed for this step as well. The application is ready for use after the Rules Palette is downloaded and the environment connections are configured.

Prerequisites

  • Servername and port for the Rules Palette Web Application Utility. This will come from the build manager.

  • Rules Palette log-in user ID and password. This will come from the build manager.

  • Database user ID and password. This will come from the build manager.

  • IVS database user ID and password. This will come from the build manager.

  • Location of the swingx-beaninfo-1.0.jar file and the swingx-1.0.jar file. Put these two files in the asgraphicruleside\modules\ext folder during installation.

  • Location of the JDBC driver files according to the type of database being used.

Steps to Download the Rules Palette

  1. Using a browser, go to http://servername:portnumber/PaletteConfig/ replacing the servername and portnumber with the correct information from the build manager.

  2. Click Download Palette Version.

  3. Click Download next to the appropriate version of the Rules Palette.

  4. Click Open from the File Download window when it asks what to do with the file. It will take a few minutes for the file to download. Once the file has been downloaded, it should automatically open with the compression software that is available on your system. If you do not have compression software, contact a supervisor or build manager.

  5. Extract the files using compression software and save the files to a local computer in the following folder:

C:/Program files/Oracle/RulesPalette

Note: A folder called Rules Palette may need to be created within C:/Program Files/Oracle if one does not already exist.

  1. Download the necessary .jar files. The type of database being used will determine the .jar files that need to be downloaded. It is recommended that a temporary subdirectory be created to house the downloaded .zip files.

    • Oracle database: no .jar files to download.

    • SQL Server database: download the jtds.jar file.

      1. Download jtds from the following site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jtds/.

      2. Click Download on the top menu bar.

      3. Click the download link for jtds (release 1.2.2).

      4. Select the jtds-1.2.2-dist.zip file. Save the download .zip file to the temporary directory created to store the .zip files.

      5. Open the downloaded .zip file and extract the file jtds-1.2.2 from the root of the .zip file.

      6. Rename the file jtds.jar.

      7. Copy the jtds.jar file into the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Oracle\RulesPalette\asgraphicalruleside\modules\ext

    • DB2 database: The three necessary .jar files (db2jcc, db2jcc_license_cisuz, and db2jcc_license_cu) are included with the purchase of the DB2 software. These files are not available for download. Contact the IT department if assistance is needed to locate these files.

  1. Launch the Rules Palette via the executable file asgraphicruleside.exe. This file will run the Rules Palette. To launch the application, double-click on the executable file. This executable file can be found in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Oracle\RulesPalette\bin

  1. Create a shortcut on the Windows XP. This makes it easier to access the Rules Palette. To create a shortcut, right-click on the asgraphiculeside.exe file (C:/Program Files/Oracle/RulesPalette/bin) and select Create Shortcut. Once the short-cut appears, drag it out onto the desktop.

An environment connection must be created before logging-in to the Rules Palette application. Security scripts will also need to be reloaded.
