The self-test moves a diagnostic cartridge from an origination point in an offline library to a destination point (such as a reserved slot, a storage slot, a tape drive, or a mailslot).
There are two types of self-test. The Basic Self Test performs moves to and from tape drives and slots in the Mailslot. The Full Self Test performs the moves of the basic test plus moves to all unoccupied storage slots.
The self-tests use a diagnostic tape (data tape with a special label). The diagnostic tape can either be stored in a reserved slot or placed in a mailslot when needed.
The following are prerequisites for running a self test:
Library is offline
Mailslot is closed
At least one unoccupied slot in the Mailslot
All cartridge magazines are latched
One operational unoccupied tape drive
Diagnostic tape
