Reporting Metrics

Contents

Overview

The Enterprise Gateway can be configured to store reporting metrics data in a database. For example, when a message is processed by the Enterprise Gateway, the time taken to process the message, the status (i.e. success or failure) of the message, and destination of the message are all written to a selected database.

The Service Monitor reporting and monitoring application can then query this information in order to produce reports illustrating how the Enterprise Gateway is performing. For example, using the Service Monitor it is possible to produce reports detailing which clients are accessing what Web Services, how many messages have been blocked in a certain time period, and also whether any Service Level Agreements (SLAs) have been breached.

Configuration

To configure the Enterprise Gateway to store reporting metrics to a database, right-click on the Enterprise Gateway process in the tree view of the Policy Studio, and select the Reporting Metrics option from the context menu, and then select the Add menu option. Message metrics can then be configured on the Reporting Metrics dialog.

Check the Enabled box to tell the Enterprise Gateway to start sending metrics to the database. This box can be unchecked at a later stage if it becomes necessary to stop sending metrics information.

We must now specify the database to use to store the reporting metrics. Select the Add button to configure a new database connection. Enter a Name for this database in the field provided on the Metrics in Database dialog. Make sure the Enabled checkbox is checked. It is possible to suspend sending metrics to this database by un-checking this option.

Click the Add button to add database connection details. Please refer to the Database Connection help page for more information on how to configure the fields on the Database Connection dialog.
