Overview

This topic describes how to obtain a standard license or an evaluation license for the Enterprise Gateway. If you have already purchased the Enterprise Gateway and have not received a license, read the instructions in How to Obtain a Standard License. Alternatively, if you are evaluating the Enterprise Gateway and need to obtain an evaluation license, read the instructions in How to Obtain an Evaluation License.

When you have obtained a valid license file, read the instructions in What to do with the License File.

How to Obtain a Standard License

If you have purchased the Enterprise Gateway, and signed the relevant license agreements, but have not yet received a valid license file, perform the following instructions. If you have any problems performing these instructions, contact the Oracle License Desk.

Step 1: Open a Command Prompt/Shell
Open a command prompt at the following directory, where INSTALL_DIR points to the root of your Enterprise Gateway installation:

Platform Directory
Windows [INSTALL_DIR]\win32\lib
Linux [INSTALL_DIR]/Linux.i386/libexec
Solaris [INSTALL_DIR]/SunOS.sun4u-32/libexec

Step 2: Run the hostid Utility
Run the hostid utility from this directory. This utility outputs the hostname, IP address, and MAC address information for the machine on which the Enterprise Gateway is installed. The license issued by Oracle is node-locked for this machine. The following sample output shows the information displayed after running the hostid utility:

host.name=MyServerMachine
net.hw=00:50:22:c0:15:01
net.hw=00:50:56:50:00:08
net.hw=00:14:56:c0:00:32
net.inet=192.168.0.40
net.inet=10.0.128.1
net.inet=192.168.129.1
version=5
version=5.3

Step 3: Send the Output to the Licenses Desk
Send the entire output of the hostid utility (as shown in this example) to the Oracle License Desk. You will receive a response from the License Desk shortly.

When you have received your license file, follow the instructions in What to do with the License File.

How to Obtain an Evaluation License

If you are evaluating the Enterprise Gateway and wish to receive an evaluation license, complete the following instructions. It is important to note that the evaluationlicense script sends the evaluation request to the License Activation Server running on activation.vordel.com. The machine from which you run the script must have access to this public server.

Step 1: Open a Command Prompt/Shell
On Windows, open a command prompt at the [INSTALL_DIR]\win32\bin directory, where INSTALL_DIR points to the root of your Enterprise Gateway installation.

On Linux and Solaris, open a shell at the [INSTALL_DIR]/posix/bin directory, where INSTALL_DIR points to the root of your Enterprise Gateway installation.

Step 2: Run the License Evaluation Script
Run the evaluationlicense script from the /bin directory and complete the series of simple questions when prompted. The following shows an example of the output from this script:

Application for evaluation license for OracleGateway-v11.1.1.5.0.

Please answer all of the following questions.

Company/Organization name: MyCompany
Customer name: User
Email address to receive license: user@mycompany.org
Tie the license to:
[1] Host name
[2] Mac Address
[3] IP Address
Enter choice [1]: 1
Select value for identifying host machine:
[1] MyServer
Enter choice [1]: 1
Please check your email for license

In this example, a 10-day evaluation license will be issued to User, and sent to the email address at user@company.org. The license will be node-locked for the machine with the hostname of MyServer.

When you have obtained your evaluation license by email, read the next section to find out What do with the License File.

What to do with the License File

When you have received your license file from the Oracle Licenses Desk, you must place the file in the [INSTALL_DIR]/conf/licenses directory, where INSTALL_DIR points to the root of your Enterprise Gateway installation.

When the Enterprise Gateway starts up, it checks for a valid license file in this directory. It also ensures that the license file is valid for the machine on which the Enterprise Gateway has been installed.
