Multifields configuration allows users to select a number from a drop down box on the screen where it is configured in order to determine the number of fields that should display. A transaction should be configured to reference the MultiFields business rule. This multifields rule uses a <ComboDisplay> tag, which allows users to configure the display name for the drop down box that contains the multifield display options.
The user navigates to the Activity screen and adds an activity configured with multifields functionality. When the activity window opens, the first combo box allows the user to select the number of fields to display. The user selects three and three separate fields appear below.
Note: Sets of fields can also use this functionality and display multiple times.
Multifields in OIPA
In order to use this business rule to perform the scenario listed above, two pieces of configuration are required:
configure the MultiFields transaction
make sure the Mulitfields business rule is configured properly. The name of the rule must be specified and multifields must be Yes.
Multifields Element in Transaction
The Prototype Company in the Rules Palette contains two sample configurations for Multifields.
Multifields business rule: This business rule defines the main combo box where the number of multifields is determined. A <ComboDisplay> tag allows this main combo box to be named. After a number of fields to display is determined, the rule will populate the required number of fields on the screen. Navigate through the following folders in the Global Rules Explorer to locate the configuration sample: Business Rules | Screen | MultiField-MultifieldPrototype.

Multifields transaction: This transaction demonstrates how multiple fields can be used when entering activity information in OIPA. Navigate through the following folders in the Main Explorer to locate the configuration sample: Companies | Prototype Company | Subsidiary Companies | Prototype Child Company | Plans | Functional Prototype Plan | Transactions | Policy Transactions | MultiFieldPrototype.
