Important Installation Instructions |
This document contains important information about the McDATA QPM installed in Sun storage area networks (SANs).
Read this document so that you are aware of issues or requirements that can affect the installation and operation of the McDATA QPM in a Sun SAN.
This document contains the following sections:
The McDATA QPM 4Gb/s Blade for the Intrepid 6140 Director requires EOS 9.0 firmware.
You can use any of the following three methods to manage the 6140 Director:
This document describes two activities:
1. Upgrading to the EOS 9.0 firmware
2. Upgrading to the EFCM 8.9 server for Windows
Note - The EFCM 8.9 Call Home Feature is not supported by Sun. Disregard any instructions to turn on this feature. |
Note - All switches in the fabric must be upgraded to the EOS 9.0 firmware. |
If your 6140 Director is currently running EOS 7.x firmware, follow these steps to upgrade to EOS 9.0 firmware:
1. Upgrade to EOS 8.2 using Sun patch 119554-01.
2. Upgrade from EOS 8.2 to EOS 9.0 using Sun patch 122187-01.
To download these patches, go to Sunsolve at http://sunsolve.sun.com.
Note - If you are using any EOS prior to 7.x, contact Sun support. |
If you are currently running EFCM Lite 7.x for the Solaris Operating System (OS), and if you are under software maintenance, you will need to obtain one or all of the following upgrades, depending on which version of EFCM Lite you currently have:
Note - If you are using any EFCM prior to 7.x, contact Sun support. |
Upgrading from EFCM Lite 7.x for the Solaris OS to EFCM 8.9 for Windows involves three software upgrade steps:
1. Upgrading from EFCM Lite 7.x for Solaris to EFCM Lite 8.1 for Solaris.
2. Upgrading from EFCM Lite 8.1 for Solaris to EFCM Lite 8.7 for Solaris.
3. Upgrading from EFCM Lite 8.7 for Solaris to EFCM 8.9 for Windows.
The following sections describe the steps needed for each upgrade.
Note - If you are currently running EFCM 8.x for Solaris, start the upgrade process at Upgrading from EFCM Lite 8.1 to EFCM Lite 8.7 for the Solaris OS. |
1. Install EFCM Lite 8.1 for the Solaris OS from the CD set.
Follow the instructions for installing version 8.1 in the EFC Manager Software Upgrade Instructions Release 8.7 (McDATA part number 958-000336-040). You can download this document from http://www.mcdata.com.
2. Migrate your 7.x database to EFCM 8.1.
Follow the instructions in the document mentioned in the previous step.
3. Obtain the Product Feature Enablement (PFE) license key from https://mcdata.getkeys.com
Enter the serial number from the CD jewel case to get the license.
4. After the upgrade, verify the integrity of the database by verifying that any customizations to the zone library and user accounts are preserved.
1. Install EFCM Lite 8.7 for the Solaris OS and migrate from version 8.1 to version 8.7 by following the instructions in the EFC Manager Software Upgrade Instructions, Release 8.7.
2. After the upgrade, verify the integrity of the database by verifying that any customizations to the zone library and user accounts are preserved.
3. Obtain a new Product Feature Enablement (PFE) License key from https://mcdata.getkeys.com
Enter the serial number from the CD jewel case to get the new license for EFCM 8.9 for the Windows platform.
4. Copy the entire EFCM 8.7 installation directory from /opt/EFCM87, or wherever EFCM is installed on your Solaris system, to the EFCM 8.9 Windows platform.
Use a method such as transferring over FTP, copying to a CD, or a making a network copy. Be sure to maintain the directory structure during the copying process.
5. Install EFCM 8.9 from the software CD on a Windows server:
a. Launch the EFCM configuration wizard, if it did not start automatically.
