Product Features

The McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director acts as the backbone of your data center. The base McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director does the following:

Note - The rail kit supplied with the McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director works only with McDATA racks. The McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director cannot be installed into Sun racks.

Installing the Switch in an Existing Fabric

If you are installing the McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director into an existing fabric, make sure that all McDATA Intrepid 10000 Directors in the fabric are running the same version of firmware. Sun does not support the combination of later firmware versions with earlier firmware versions. Upgrade any McDATA Intrepid 10000 Directors so that they run later versions of firmware if necessary.

Note - Firmware version E/OSn 9.1 is the minimum firmware version for the McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director. For other switches in the fabric, the minimum EOS firmware version is E/OSc 9.1.

For more information on required firmware for the McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director hardware, see the Sun document Firmware Version E/OSn 9.1 Release Notes, part number 819-7985-10 available at http://docs.sun.com.

Installing the SWX Switch Card in the McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director

You can install an SWX Switch Card wherever an SWM is currently used. The SWX is compatible with existing SWM cards and up to four SWX cards can be installed in a McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director.

Note - The Intrepid 10000 Director must be running E/OSn 9.1 prior to the installation of SWX hardware.

Installing an LMQ Module in the McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director

The LMQ is hot-pluggable into a McDATA Intrepid 10000 Director LIM (Line Module) slot. That is, you may insert the LMQ while the system is running. The LMQ is compatible with all prior LIMs and requires no additional hardware in the McData Intrepid 10000 Director.

Note - The Intrepid 10000 Director must be running E/OSn 9.1 prior to the installation of LMQ hardware.

Supported Hardware

The following is a list of the storage devices, host bus adapters (HBAs), and servers that are supported by the McDATA switches and directors.

Note - If the device you want to connect is not listed in the following section, check the Release Notes for your HBA or storage device, or contact your Sun account representative to see if support for your device has been added.

Supported Storage Platforms

Note - The McDATA 10 Gb port supports only a short-wave ISL connection to another 10-Gb port at this time.
