The Sun Open Net Environment (ONE) Application Server 7 family introduces a wide variety of new features that enhance both the developer and operational experience.
The following features are new for Sun ONE Application Server 7. The Enterprise Features section highlights the features that are new for the Sun ONE Application Server 7, Enterprise Edition.
Enterprise FeaturesThe Sun ONE Application Server 7, Enterprise Edition distribution includes the following enterprise features. These features are not available in Platform Edition or Standard Edition:
Developer FeaturesSun ONE Application Server 7 includes the following developer features:
- Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE platform) version 1.3 compatible including
- Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE platform) 1.4
- Integrated Java Web Services
- Updated Sun ONE Studio integration with seamless debugging and deployment
- Dynamic (“hot”) deployment and reloading
- Greatly enhanced Container Managed Persistence (CMP) support
- Easy-to-configure, XML-based server configuration
- Lifecycle listener classes (sophisticated startup and shutdown classes)
- Extensive sample applications
- Apache Ant build facility integration
- HTTP session persistence testing support using the local file system to store persistence data.
Operational FeaturesSun ONE Application Server 7 distribution includes the following operational features:
- Integrated, high-performance HTTP server
- Integrated, proven Sun ONE Message Queue, Platform Edition as the JMS provider
- Virtual HTTP server support for web applications
- Multiple administrative domains per install image (separate application server configurations from single install image)
- Remote web-based administration interface
- Full-featured, remotable command-line interface supporting remote monitoring
- Commands to automate cluster setup and to administer clusters
- Plug-in for redirecting requests from the web server to the Sun ONE Application Server
- Pluggable authentication based on Java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS)
- Improved logging with multiple log levels
- Platform-specific packaging with SVR4 style packages for the Solaris operation environment
- Right to use Sun ONE Directory Server for user authentication and limited application configuration
- Right to use the Sun ONE Web Server included in the distribution on a different machine than the machine hosting the Sun ONE Application Server
- Load distribution by redirecting requests based upon URIs to a different application server
- Remote monitoring using the SNMP monitoring facilities
