McDATA Eclipse 1620 SAN Router Release Notes for E/OSi 5.0 Firmware |
This document contains the latest supplementary information for installing the McDATA Eclipse 1620 SAN Router in Sun storage area networks (SANs).
This document contains the following sections:
The McDATA Eclipse 1620 SAN Router is a single unit field-replaceable unit (FRU) that provides support for the following standard protocols:
When a McDATA Eclipse 1620 SAN Router is connected to a fabric, it extends the communication between devices beyond a single fabric. Since iFCP and iSCSI are IP based forms of communication, there is no distance limitation on the FC port.
With the support of multiple vendors fabric across the IP, the McDATA Eclipse 1620 SAN Router essentially bridges the communication between fabrics from different vendors, which is not permitted by the FC switches.
The McDATA Eclipse 1620 SAN Router is a bridge for communication beyond a single SAN. SANs from different vendors, McDATA, Brocade, and Qlogic are supported for inter-SAN communication.
Enhancements or changes have been made in the following areas:
For details, refer to the McDATA Eclipse SAN Routers (E/OSi) Release Notes, 958-000560-500, in the "What's New in This Release" section.
For ISAN (SAN over an IP network) all currently supported devices on the Sun fabric are supported by the McDATA 1620 SAN Router through fabric connection. No direct device connection to the McDATA 1620 SAN Router is supported.
TABLE 1 lists all the FC switches and firmware supported by the 1620 SAN Router.
Note - For a list of supported initiators and Windows and Linux Operating System versions, see the McDATA Eclipse SAN Routers (E/OSi) Release Notes. |
All devices supported on the fabric will continue to be supported through the fabric connection to the 1620 router.
The following remote data replication software is supported.
There are three levels of firmware and two levels of SANvergence Manager software.
5.00.0.SS - Base firmware supports 12 iSCSI initiators. There is no iFCP support.
5.00.0.SF - Standard iFCP firmware supports 50 iSCSI initiators per 1620 router. iFCP is supported, but Fast Write and Data Compression are not.
5.00.0.EF - Enterprise iFCP firmware supports 50 iSCSI initiators per 1620 router. iFCP with Fast Write and Data Compression is supported. SANvergence Enterprise software is included with the firmware.
SANvergence Standard software - This is included in the first two levels of firmware options.
SANvergence Enterprise software - SG-XSWMD1620-ESW.
The base firmware (5.00.0.SS) and standard SANvergence software (5.0) are included with the 1620 SAN router on a CD.
You can also download this firmware and software Patch ID 119551-03, from the following SunSolve web site:
http://sunsolve.sun.com
The standard iFCP firmware (5.00.0.SF), Enterprise iFCP firmware (5.00.0.EF), and Enterprise SANvergence Manager (5.0) can be ordered separately as options, and a CD with the appropriate firmware/software will be distributed.
Unlike the Standard iSCSI firmware and Standard SANvergence Manager, the enhanced iFCP firmware and Enterprise SANvergence Manager are currently not available as SunSolve patches.
If you need to reinstall or upgrade the iFCP firmware or Enterprise SANvergence Manager and have misplaced your CD, please contact your representative for SUN support. An escalation will be created to provide a downloadable copy of the firmware or software.
For a list of known issues related to the 1620 SAN router, see the McDATA Eclipse SAN Routers (E/OSi) Release Notes.
See the section "Outstanding Known Issues in this Release" on page 33 of the McDATA Eclipse SAN Routers (E/OSi) Release Notes. Also refer to Table 2 on page 16, "Product Operational Notes."
