Oracle® Rules Palette Release 9.0.1.0.0 E15494-01 |
|
The DataDictionary is a feature that allows you to define and manage a standard list of terms for the Rules Palette. When a field or math variable is defined in the DataDictionary, it can then be used in the configuration of a rule or transaction. The DataDictionary also tracks the dependencies between variables and rules.
All terms added to the DataDictionary must be validated. You can enforce the use of the DataDictionary through the DataDictionaryEnforcement business rule.
DataDictionary Facts:
DataDictionary and its enforcement are at the Global Level.
DataDictionary saves configuration time because you can use fields or math variables that already exist.
DataDictionary prevents you from accidentally deleting an active field because you see the rules and transactions that use it.
DataDictionary can be used as a type of dictionary.
DataDictionary provides consistency during configuration because common names are used.
The Rules Palette can warn users that they are attempting to configure a field and/or math variable that is not defined in the DataDictionary.
There are two ways to access the DataDictionary:
When configuring, you can access the DataDictionary
by clicking Window from the menu
bar and then selecting Open SearchPalette
Window. Procedures for using the drag and
drop functionality in the Configuration Area are described in the SearchPalette Window description.

You can also select the Book icon found on the Tool Bar menu. You cannot use drag and drop functionality from the DataDictionary when this access option is chosen. Instead this option is used to manage and look-up variables and DataDictionary categories.

Security is wrapped around the DataDictionary, allowing only users with the proper permissions to create and edit dictionary terms. There are three levels of DataDictionary security: check-in/check-out, manager and view.
