Navigation Topic h1 |h1|

Navigational topics--also known as node topics--provide a paragraph or two of context in a given subject area and conclude with a list of described links to topics about the subject. The assumption is that the user has opened the topic from the TOC rather than that the user found it in the index or with a search.

Any topic associated with a TOC node that contains several related topics should use the Navigation template. If there is a need to provide a longer topic that explains the subject area, this topic should be an overview topic, and might be the first topic listed when the node is opened.

Include a link to each topic in the chapter. After each link, include a sentence or two describing what the user will learn by visiting that topic. Don’t get too elaborate—that’s what the topic itself is for. But do be specific.

These topics should be short! Ideally, the user won’t have to scroll more than once to get the whole shebang.
