Selecting a work item assigns the item's current activity to you. When a work item activity is selected, no other participants can process it.
To select a work item:
To display a list of work items, in the left pane, click a view name.
Do one of the following:
In the right pane, click the checkbox for the work item you want to select, and then, in the Work Item toolbar, click the Select Work Item button.
In the Participant column, click the Select Work Item button for the work item you want to select.
