Download a Process Definition File

Processes are saved in Extensible Markup Language (XML) format when they are saved in or exported from Process Designer. The saved file uses the file extension .xpdl appended to the process name. XPDL stands for XML Process Definition Language. Process .xpdl files are archived when process instances are archived.

To download a process definition file:

  1. Log in to the Archive Viewer.

  2. On the Archive Viewer page, under Processes, select a process [Search Inclusion Level] of [Select]. A list showing all of the archived versions of the process will expand.

  3. Next to the appropriate process version date, click Download Process definition file (xpdl).

  4. When prompted, choose to open the file or save it to another location. The file can be opened using any XML editor.
