I have a PDA (regular Palm, Pocket PC PDA) without wireless access. Does it work with Oracle Collaboration Suite?

Yes, you can synchronize your regular Palm or Pocket PC device with a cradle without wireless connectivity. Oracle Mobile Data Sync synchronizes Oracle Calendar with PDAs based on either Palm OS (Windows or Mac), or Windows CE / Pocket PC (3.x or higher), enabling full two-way synchronization of meetings, appointments, contacts, notes and tasks. Oracle Mobile Data Sync takes Personal Digital Assistant functionality beyond Personal Information Management (PIM), by allowing users to access information such as meeting attendees/resources and attendee status. Oracle's sync preference menu allows users to customize the amount of information that is synchronized, as well as download attendee lists and meeting details.

What do I enter if I do not have a mobile phone, or if I have more than one mobile phone?

You can enter any unique phone number. Oracle recommends your Mobile Phone Number so that when you use voice access from your mobile phone, you will not have to enter the account number. This feature is based on the concept of trusted devices; if you use voice access from one of the phone listed as your mobile or work phone, the system does not prompt you for your Voice account number, and only prompts for your PIN.

Be sure that your phone is not set on mute. Because the system may not understand what you say when you call from a noisy environment, or can misinterpret background noise as a voice command, you must always speak loudly and clearly when prompted. If you hear the "busy working on your request" sound, then the system is not listening for a voice command. Wait for the sound to stop and then say a command when prompted.

The touchtone buttons do not seem to work when I respond to the system prompts.

You cannot always use the keypad in place of a voice command. Generally, only use the keypad when prompted by the system or when the system tells you to enter a number.

When I log in to the mobile portal (/ptg/rm), I enter my credentials, but receive the error message, "The user did not type in an account ID".

Verify that you entered your Account ID (that is, the number of your mobile phone) and PIN that you selected in the mobile portal and not your Oracle Collaboration Suite SSO (single sign-on) user name and password.

  1. Log into the Web portal (http:///pls/portal).
  2. Click Calendar.
  3. Click Preferences. Select the appropriate time zone from the list.
To check your own time zone setting:
  1. Log into in the Web portal (http:///pls/portal).

  4. To modify this setting, click Edit my profile.

Appointments from Ask, Voice, or mobile browser interface show up in a different time zone than on my desktop. Why?

Currently, time zone setting for all wireless and voice interface is different from the time zone setting of Calendar server, so you must set up the same time zone for both Calendar and Wireless in order to display your meeting time correctly on the wireless interface.

Here are the steps to configure the Time Zone setting for wireless and voice access:

  1. Go to the Collaboration Suite Portal and click Wireless and Voice in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Under User Preferences, specify your Time Zone, the same as your Calendar time zone setting.

I sent an Ask command by text messaging/SMS, but did not receive a reply. Why?

It could be one of many reasons:

  • Ensure that you entered the Country Code before the phone number during setup. Notifications and Ask access will NOT work without a country code. For USA/Canada, enter +1 in Country Code field. For example: +1.650.555.1234, +44.118.924.6600.
  • Your mobile phone carrier may not be supported by Oracle's SMS provider. After logging in to Oracle, go to http://collabsuite.oracle.com/help/wireless/Mobileway%20Network%20Reach.doc to see the list of supported carriers in each country.
  • Some non-GSM carriers, such as Sprint in the USA, can receive text messages, but text messages sent from these phones are not received by our Ask service.
  • If you are roaming, you might be able to receive text messages, but might not be able to send messages. If you were able to use the Ask service before traveling but can not use it now, this is the most likely reason.
  • Verify that your setup is complete (Log in to Oracle Collaboration Suite, and follow the instructions in the Getting Started section.).
  • Sometimes it just takes a long time to receive a response. A delay may be caused by our SMS aggregator or your mobile phone carrier. Average response time varies between 30 seconds to 5 minutes. If you do not get any response back within 30 minutes, the Ask service might be down or there might be some other problem; contact Helpdesk or send an e-mail to: mobilesupport_ww@oracle.com

Why does it take so long to get a reply back by text messaging/SMS or e-mail?

Sometimes it takes a long time to get a response. If you are experiencing delays in text messaging/SMS, it could be caused by Oracle's SMS provider or your mobile phone carrier. If you are experiencing a delay in e-mail response, it is generally caused by a heavily-loaded SMTP server.

Why does the system not understand my voice commands?

You may be saying a command that is not recognized by the voice access system. The system only understands a defined set of commands. In addition, you may find out which commands are recognizable by saying HELP at any time. Please note the voice access system picks up background noise or voices, which could also affect what the system recognizes. If possible, use your voice access to e-mail in a quiet location where other voices cannot be heard.

  1. Speak a little more loudly.
  2. Do not talk during the click, click, click working sound.

The system is reading my messages very slowly. Why is there a delay?

At times, the e-mail server is slow which causes the voice e-mail system to take time in fetching the messages.

When I go to the ptg/rm URL, it asks me for an account number and PIN. Why does it not ask me for my SSO username and password?

Wireless portal (/ptg/rm) is not SSO-enabled at this time; it will be in a future release. Also, some phones only have a numeric keypad, and it is much more convenient to enter numeric account numbers and/or PINs than alpha-numeric usernames or passwords.

Why do I receive a bad username or password message when I contact the Messaging Gateway?

  • The password is not correct.
  • The username does not exist on that gateway.
  • The user is not enabled.
  • The user does not have available quota.

Ensure that the user name and password are valid. If they are valid and this error occurs when accessing the messenger.oracle.com -hosted instance, contact mobilesupport_ww@oracle.com in order to determine the exact problem.

Why aren't some languages displaying properly in Netscape?

Some languages may not display properly if you use Netscape 4.7 or an earlier version. In some cases, characters may display as boxes. To fix this problem, configure the Netscape preferences as follows:

  1. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
  2. From the Category tree, select Fonts.
  3. In the Fonts dialog, select Unicode from the For the Encoding drop-down list.
  4. From the Variable Width Font and Fixed Width Font drop-down lists, select the font that supports the preferred language. For example, if you select Chinese as your preferred language, select MS Song to view the page in Chinese.
  5. From the Netscape tool bar, click Edit.

The times displayed for my received messages are many hours old, even though they were sent just this morning. Is there an error, or are they being stored before coming into my mail box?

I cannot get delivery status callback from the messaging gateway. What should I do?

  • Is the Status Listener set?
    The Status Listener must be set before sending out the message. In the following example, the client requests that the messaging gateway sends a status update to http://my-pc.foo.bar:3900. The MyStatusListener class is notified when new a status arrives.

    MyStatusListener myListener = new MyStatusListener();
    xmsSender.setStatusListener(myListener, "my-pc.foo.bar", 3900);

  • Is the Tracking Flag set?
    The Tracking Flag must be explicitly set to get callback.

    MessageInfo mInfo = new MessageInfo();
    mInfo.setTracking(MessageInfo.TIGHT_FULL_TRACK);
    pkt.setMessageInfo(mInfo);

  • Is the client machine reachable by messaging gateway?
    The messaging gateway server must be able to reach the specified host name and port. Firewalls must be configured to allow HTTP requests from messaging gateway. The client machine may be placed in DMZ if the gateway is on the Internet.
