Support for Oracle RAC in WebLogic Server 8.1 SP4

For WebLogic Server 8.1 SP4, BEA provides a patch that supports Oracle9i RAC and Oracle 10g RAC for the use of MultiPools, with or without XA transactions.

Note: The MultiPool Patch is supported by WebLogic Server 8.1 SP4 only; it is not supported by any other WebLogic Platform component products.

The MultiPool Patch enables WebLogic JDBC MultiPools to be used with either Oracle9i RAC or 10g RAC to support connection pool failover and load balancing for applications using XA transactions and Oracle RAC.

This patch is compatible with non-XA usage, and incorporates support previously delivered in the WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP4 patch for Oracle9i RAC connect-time failover.

The MultiPool Patch is available for downloading at:

http://dev2dev.bea.com/wlserver/patch/wls81sp4_MP_OracleRAC_patch.html

Note: For information about configuring your system with Oracle9i or 10g RAC, see "Using WebLogic Server with Oracle RAC" in Programming WebLogic JDBC:

WebLogic Platform Support for Databases

Certain WebLogic Platform products, specifically WebLogic Workshop, WebLogic Portal, WebLogic Integration, and WebLogic Server Process Edition use databases stores for product runtime data. WebLogic Platform and these products support only the databases and the database drivers specified in the "Database Support" sections in this document for this purpose. For example, see the supported database versions and drivers for WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP5 in Database Support for WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP5.

In addition, WebLogic Platform provides support for application connectivity and communication with databases as follows:

Database Access Requirements for WebLogic Platform

WebLogic Platform requires the following database-specific resources:

Obtaining specific patch sets for Oracle 9i Release 2, such as those required for Oracle 9.2.0.4, may require an Oracle Metalink (support contract) account. For details, see: http://otn.oracle.com/support/patches.htm

  • WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 support for the Oracle Thin Driver 10g and Oracle Thin/XA Driver 10g requires the installation of the WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 Patch for Oracle Thin Driver 10g.

PointBase 4.4

PointBase Type 4 Driver

PointBase Server is an all-Java DBMS product included in the WebLogic Platform distribution solely for evaluation purposes, either in the form of custom trial applications or through packaged sample applications provided with WebLogic Platform. Non-evaluation development or other use of the PointBase Server requires that a separate PointBase Server license be obtained by the end user directly from DataMirror. WebLogic Integration, WebLogic Portal, and WebLogic Workshop do not support PointBase for production server deployments.

Sybase 12.5.03

  • BEA WebLogic Type 4 JDBC Sybase Driver

  • BEA WebLogic Type 4 XA JDBC Sybase Driver

WebLogic Integration 8.1 SP2 support for the BEA WebLogic Type 4 XA JDBC Sybase Driver requires the installation of the WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 SDK/Database patch.

Any compliant driver supplied by WebLogic Server

Other databases may be used for data access through WebLogic Server.

About the WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 SDK/Database Patch

BEA has made available an SDK/Database patch for WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 that enables full WebLogic Platform support for the SQL Server and Sybase databases when using XA, and full WebLogic Platform DB2 support. This patch is available at the following URL:

http://commerce.bea.com/d2d/wlplat81sp2_patch.jsp

About the WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 Patch for Oracle Thin Driver 10g

WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 support for the Oracle Thin Driver 10g and Oracle Thin/XA Driver 10g requires the installation of the WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP2 Patch for Oracle Thin Driver 10g.

The patch is available at:

http://commerce.bea.com/d2d/wlplat81sp2_patch.jsp

The Oracle 10g drivers are bundled with the patch.

Known Issues

There is one known issue with the Oracle Thin Driver 10g: it has a batch size limit of 1682 operations. In previous versions of the Oracle Thin driver, there was no apparent limit to the size of batch operations. If your application runs very large batch operations, you may see batch failures. To work around this issue, limit your batch size to 1682 or use the 9.2.0 version of the Oracle Thin driver. Oracle recommends batch sizes of between 5 and 30.
