Documentation Enhancements

Oracle Smart Space, Fusion Edition is the first personalized information delivery solution for Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management that uses desktop gadgets. Its instant collaboration capabilities enable knowledge workers to share insights, discuss issues, document actions, and adjust plans. Smart Space exploits the collective power of Microsoft Windows and .NET technology, local memory and CPU resources on standard personal computers, and the Services Oriented Architecture of Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus. This document describes the features available in Smart Space Release 11.1.1. For information on using these features, see the documentation set.

It is our goal to make Oracle products, services, and supporting documentation accessible to the disabled community. Oracle Smart Space New Features Guide release 11.1.1 supports accessibility features. Accessibility features are fully described in the appendix of the Oracle Smart Space User's Guide.

Installation and Configuration

Smart Space is part of Oracle's Hyperion® Shared Services and is installed with Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System. Read the Oracle Smart Space Configuration Guide before you install Smart Space.

The new Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installer, Fusion Edition and Oracle's Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Configurator provide a streamlined and simplified approach to product installation, upgrade, and configuration. Oracle's Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Configurator uses the new Oracle's Hyperion Shared Services Registry, which simplifies product configuration by storing and re-using configuration information.

Oracle's Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Diagnostics confirms that product components were successfully installed, configured, and are up and running.

The reorganized installation and configuration documentation set reduces the number of installation guides and makes it easier to find the information you need. Individual product installation guides are replaced by the following guides:

  • Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation Start Here

  • Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide

  • Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Security Administration Guide

You might also need to use these guides:

  • Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Manual Deployment Guide

  • Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System SSL Configuration Guide

Services are like gadgets but without a user interface. Services can be called from other gadgets and services.

  • install.html—This page is installed on the Smart Space server; it contains installation links to the Administration Utility, SDK, Java messaging libraries, and the Notification Web Service WSDL. Optionally, you can remove install.html from Smart Space server so users cannot access it.

Smart Space Software Development Kit (SDK) Enhancements

  • Service Architecture—Provides the ability to create, deploy and publish a service. This functionality enables splitting the implementation between user interface (UI) and non-UI components. The gadget layer (UI) can reuse the service layer components (non-UI) when developing multiple gadgets that utilize the same service. It also provides extensibility of the Smart Space framework enabling developers to create services others can use with their own custom gadgets or services.

  • Visual C# and Visual Basic project template—Enables you to create a service. The templates are available within Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005 in addition to the existing Visual C# and Visual Basic gadget templates.

  • Messaging library for Java and .NET—Libraries that enable external use of the Collaborator and Notification services. The libraries are available in both Java and .NET enabling external systems and applications to send and receive instant message and notification messages using the Smart Space Collaborator infrastructure.

  • Notification Web Service WSDL—Enables external applications to send messages to users, and manage a user's contact list.

  • Gadget SDK Enhancements:

    • Support for gadget to gadget communication.

    • Ability to add additional folders and files to the Smart Space Content drive of Windows Explorer for accessing data from other external systems such as a new repository.

    • Oracle Smart Space Collaborator, Fusion Edition user interface elements are exposed.

    • Ability to write to the Smart Space log files.

  • Standalone SDK Help—The SDK help that is displayed within Visual Studio, is now available standalone.
