3 Installation Issues

This chapter describes installation issues and workarounds associated with Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One. It includes the following topics:

3.1 Harmless Warning Message When Specifying an Invalid Instance Name

During the installation, if you specify an invalid instance name (for example, you entered an instance name with an invalid character), an error message appears immediately, informing you of the problem and asking you to fix the instance name.

As a result of this, a warning message stating that you are installing in a non-empty directory appears when the installation actually begins. This warning is harmless and can be safely ignored.

3.2 Deinstallation Error Messages

During deinstallation of Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One you will receive the following error message:


Java Virtual Machine Launcher Could not find the main class.Program will exit



This error message can be ignored and you can proceed with the deinstallation.

3.3 Termination of Installation

You may observe termination of the Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One installation process in the following circumstances:

3.3.1 Insufficient ORACLE_HOME Storage Space

Your installation of Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One may terminate due to insufficient ORACLE_HOME storage space. For example:

  1. Launch the Oracle Universal Installer.

  2. Provide the location of the ORACLE_HOME for installation. However, not enough disk space is available in the provided location.

  3. Provide all the required information in the rest of the installation screens that appear.

  4. Start the installation.

  5. An error message appears indicating that not enough space is available for installation of Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One.

  6. If you attempt to further install Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One at this point you will observe an abnormal program termination.

Before installing Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One verify that you have enough space in your ORACLE_HOME location.

3.3.2 Insufficient Installation Storage Space

Your installation of Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One may terminate due to insufficient storage space during installation. For example:

  1. Launch the Oracle Universal Installer.

  2. Provide the location of the ORACLE_HOME for installation. There is enough disk space available in the provided location.

  3. Provide all the required information in the rest of the installation screens that appear.

  4. Start the installation.

  5. Files not applicable to the installation of Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One are copied to the ORACLE_HOME installation location.

  6. A screen will appear requesting the selection of a different ORACLE_HOME location.

Before installing Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One verify your selection of the ORACLE_HOME location.

3.4 Oracle Application Server Companion CD 10g (10.1.2.0.0)

3.4.2 Oracle Sensor Edge Server Administrator's Guide

3.5 Oracle JDeveloper Extensions

Oracle JDeveloper provides a public Java API that allows the product to be extended or customized in virtually any conceivable way. There are many Oracle JDeveloper extensions available for download from OTN (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange//index.html). These include extensions developed by Oracle, as well as by third parties. Of particular interest to Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One users are:

3.6 Error Message during Deinstallation

During deinstallation of Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One on some computers, you may receive an error message similar to the following:


"oraclient10.dll could not found in the specified path"



You can ignore this error message and continue with the deinstallation of Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One.

3.7 Documentation Errata

This section describes known issues in Oracle Application Server Installing and Getting Started with Standard Edition One. The following topics are covered:

3.7.1 Incorrect Password Type Specified in Troubleshooting Section

The text in the problem description in Section H.7.1, "Retrieving an OracleAS Portal Password" incorrectly refers to the OracleAS Portal login password. This should be the OracleAS Portal schema password.

3.7.2 Invalid Solution Documented in Troubleshooting Section

The solution in Section H.7.2, "Unable to Login to OracleAS Portal Using Internet Explorer with SSL Enabled" should be replaced with the following:

This is a known issue with Internet Explorer and is documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article ID 843518 (Internet Explorer 6 is not RFC-compliant for the host header). This article contains a possible workaround for this issue.

Another possible workaround follows:

  1. Configure a virtual host as described in Section 5.4, "Configuring Virtual Hosts" in the Oracle Application Server Portal Configuration Guide.

  2. Clear the Portal cache:

    
    C:\> cd MIDTIER_ORACLE_HOME\Apache\modplsql\cache
