2 Associating an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure

This chapter explains how to associate and re-associate an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure, and contains the following topics:

2.1 About installing OracleBI Discoverer from the Oracle Business Intelligence CD

You can deploy Oracle Business Intelligence in two ways:

You can associate a Discoverer instance with an existing OracleAS Infrastructure during the post-install process.

A BI standalone installation contains the following components:

Note: End users start Discoverer using a direct login page.

After installation, Discoverer is listed in the System Components list on the home page in Oracle Application Server Control.

For more information about how to display Application Server Control, see Section 5.1.2, "How to start Application Server Control and display the System Components page". For information about how to display components installed from the Oracle Business Intelligence standalone CD, see Section 5.1.3, "How to display the Application Server Control Discoverer Home page".

In a BI associated installation, the following additional components are available:

For more information about associating OracleBI with an OracleAS infrastructure, see Chapter 2, "Associating an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure".

After installation, Discoverer is listed in the System Components list on the home page in Oracle Application Server Control.

Note: With a BI associated installation, end users can use the Discoverer connections page to start Discoverer and manage login details. for more details about Discoverer connections, see Chapter 4, "Managing OracleBI Discoverer connections".

For information about how to associate Discoverer with an OracleAS infrastructure after installation, see Section 2.2, "How to associate and reassociate an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure").

Note: Unless stated otherwise, the instructions in this guide assume that you have a BI associated installation.

2.2 How to associate and reassociate an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure

You associate an OracleBI installation with an Oracle Application Server infrastructure to deploy Discoverer with other OracleAS components (e.g. Oracle Portal, Oracle Single Sign-On).

You can associate OracleBI Discoverer with either an OracleAS 9.0.4. infrastructure or an OracleAS 10.1.2. infrastructure.

You reassociate (i.e. change Infrastructure Services) an OracleBI installation when you want Discoverer to use a different OracleAS infrastructure machine without having to re-install the OracleBI middle tier(s). For example, you might deploy a test Discoverer system using one infrastructure server. Having tested the system, you might want to deploy it as a production system using a different infrastructure server.

Note: If you want to associate Discoverer with a 9.0.4 infrastructure, you must also upgrade the MR to enable Discoverer Portlet Provider (for more information, see Section 2.3, "How to upgrade a 9.0.4 metadata repository to work with Discoverer Portlet Provider Version 10.1.2".

To associate or reassociate OracleBI Discoverer with an Oracle Application Server infrastructure:

  1. Start a Web browser and enter the Application Server Control URL containing the fully qualified host name and domain of the OracleBI installation that you want to configure (for more information, see Section 5.1.2, "How to start Application Server Control and display the System Components page").

  2. Display the Infrastructure tab.

    Description of em4.gif follows
    Description of the illustration em4.gif

  3. In the Identity Management area, do one of the following:

    • to associate the OracleBI installation, click Configure to display the Configure Identity Management: Internet Directory page

    • to reassociate the OracleBI installation, click Change to display the Change Identity Management: Internet Directory page

    Description of em5.gif follows
    Description of the illustration em5.gif

  4. Use the Host field and the Port fields to enter the host name (e.g. infra.mycompany.com) and port number (e.g. 389) of the Oracle Internet Directory component on the Infrastructure machine.

Hint: To find out the host name and port number values to specify, start Oracle Application Control on the Infrastructure machine, display the Infrastructure tab, and note down the values of the Internet Directory Host field and the Internet Directory Port field.

  5. Click Next to display the Configure Identity Management: Login page.

  6. Use the User Name field and the Password fields to enter the administration user name and password for the Oracle Internet Directory component on the Infrastructure machine.

Hint: Prefix the user name value with cn= (e.g. cn=orcladmin).

  7. Click Next to display the Configure Identity Management: Validation page.

  8. Click Finish.

Having configured Identity Management, you now configure the Metadata Repository.

  9. In the Metadata Repository area, do one of the following:

    • to associate the OracleBI installation, click Configure to display the Configure Repository: Internet Directory page

    • to reassociate the OracleBI installation, click Change to display the Change Repository: Internet Directory page

  10. Follow the steps in the Configure/Change Repository: Internet Directory wizard, then click Finish.

The OracleBI Discoverer installation is now associated with an Oracle Application Server infrastructure. You can now deploy Discoverer with other Oracle Applications components (i.e. Oracle Portal, Oracle Single Sign-On) and use Discoverer connections and Discoverer Portlet Provider. For more information about Oracle Applications components available, see Section 2.1, "About installing OracleBI Discoverer from the Oracle Business Intelligence CD".

2.3 How to upgrade a 9.0.4 metadata repository to work with Discoverer Portlet Provider Version 10.1.2

If you associate a 10.1.2 OracleBI installation with a 9.0.4 OracleAS infrastructure and you want to deploy Discoverer Portlet Provider, you must upgrade the Metadata Repository (MR) on the OracleAS infrastructure installation from Version 9.0.4 to Version 10.1.2.

After upgrade a MR to 10.1.2, Oracle Portal users can create Discoverer portlets using Discoverer Portlet Provider Version 10.1.2 (e.g. a Worksheet Portlet, List of Worksheets Portlet, or Gauges portlet).

Use the Metadata Repository Upgrade Assistant (MRUA) to upgrade the Metadata Repository (MR) on the OracleAS infrastructure installation from Version 9.0.4 to Version 10.1.2.

To use Discoverer Portlet Provider 10.1.2 with OracleAS Portal 9.0.4 you must perform the following steps:

  1. Use the MRUA tool to upgrade the metadata repository (MR) of the OracleAS 9.0.4 Infrastructure.

  2. Associate Oracle Business Intelligence with the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure that is associated with the OracleAS Portal that you want to use.

For information about how to associate Oracle Business Intelligence with an OracleAS infrastructure after installation, see Section 2.2, "How to associate and reassociate an OracleBI installation with an OracleAS infrastructure".

  3. Do one of the following to set up Discoverer Portlet Provider:

    • If you have an existing Discoverer Portlet Provider 9.0.4 registered with OracleAS Portal, change the registration of the Discoverer Portlet Provider to use the URL of the Discoverer Portlet Provider 10.1.2.

    • If you do not have an existing Discoverer Portlet Provider 9.0.4 registered with OracleAS Portal, register the Discoverer Portlet Provider 10.1.2 with OracleAS Portal.

For information about Discoverer portlet provider registration, see Section 11.3, "How to register Discoverer Portlet Provider with OracleAS Portal".
